If you’ve been around for a bit you’ll know that Cameron is a self proclaimed food addict. Pizza is by far one of his biggest weaknesses. Put a fresh, hot, cheesy pepperoni, Pizza Hut pizza in front of him and there’s no stopping that kid in a candy store.
My weakness is by far ice cream! If anyone asks me if I want to grab a shake at JCWs or a creation at Cold Stone, I really have a hard time saying no. If they offer to pay too, then there really is no stopping me. Period.
Bad thing about most ice cream is that it is loaded with processed sugar which makes us all fat. Not to mention most sugar is from GMO sugar beets. Probably one reason why those last 10 pounds of baby weight is taking its sweet time coming off. In other words, homemade healthy ice cream recipes will save you from indulging when that craving hits you like a hammer to the forehead.
The good thing about ice cream is that it can be a healthy indulgence with a little time and effort!
Have you seen those ice cream blender recipes floating around Pinterest? Yeah… those have NEVER turned out for me in my little Ninja. (We love our Ninja btw!) Those recipes always turn out too icy and not enough creamy in my opinion.
We tried to use the Kitchen Aid ice cream bowl attachment… DON’T DO IT!! It works fantastic until all the blue stuff that keeps the bowl cold starts leaking out all over the place. I even read the reviews about people talking about the leaks and I just assumed they didn’t take very good care of their bowl. We treated our bowl like it was our newborn baby and it still leaked.
Go get yourself a Cuisinart ice cream maker. Cameron got me a red one for my birthday last year. It works wonderful, good price, easy to clean, has some fun colors to choose from, and doesn’t take up too much room. If you love ice cream as much as I do and can drop a couple of Benjamins, then get one with a compressor so you don’t have to wait for your bowl to freeze!
Okay now for the recipes!
This first recipe is one of my favorites because it is VERY versatile. This recipe is just your simple custard vanilla ice cream. You can leave out the vanilla and add some cocoa powder for chocolate ice cream. Last time we added some sprouted flour chocolate chip cookie dough chunks to it while it was mixing and turned out heavenly! Next time we’re going to try some brownie chunks!
Here are some other recipes from my fellow blogger friends! I want to say a big fat THANK YOU to them for letting me share their recipes with my readers. Hope you enjoy!
